**This post may contain uncomfortable descriptive words - you've been warned.**
Today I went to jury duty. Yip pee. I totally got there late (which is super awkward when a million people watch you try to find a seat). And I don't know if that's why but I was in the 3rd group to be assigned a court. I got Criminal County Court #8. I was juror #8. We went upstairs and filled out our questionaire then got called in.
To my great delight (and by delight I mean dismay) it was an indecent exposure case. I knew I was in trouble when the judge started reading the definition of indecent exposure. There was just something about this older distinguished judge repeatedly using the words anus and genitals that got me giggling. (What am I? A 12 year old boy?) Luckily I had the sense to bite the insides of my cheeks to keep from making an audible noise. And I think I was mostly able to conceal the smirk.
So they ask us a bunch of questions about how we feel about police officers and if we can do the whole innocent until proven guilty thing and if we are uncomfortable with a case involving genitals. (I heard that word more times today than probably ever in my life combined.) It's all nice and uncomfortable. And the district atty kept making dumb comments about whether we'd rather be on vacation. Um, no I'd much rather be here than on vacation. Here doing my civic duty listening to your questions about this unfortunate man's genitals. That's what I'd rather be doing. Sheesh!
So to keep a short story short (even though I'm pretty good at making them long - even when they aren't interesting - just ask my mother) I didn't get picked. And as I left the courtroom it struck me that there were no women on the jury. Which I'm sure was fine with each of us. So I went and got my $6 paycheck (although I felt awkward not donating it to charity) and gladly left for home. All in a good 3 hours worth of "work". I got paid $2 an hour for performing my civic duty. I just felt bad for the 6 men who would be there most of the day hearing about genitals and get the same $6 paycheck.
I think that someday I'd like to be on a jury. (Although I imagine I'm a bit too opinionated and vocal to be selected.) I'm just glad that today was not that day!

Bedtime Stories
Now there is a movie you should see. It's the first Adam Sandler movie that I have found even remotely entertaining. It was delightful!
I wish it would rain gumballs in my neighborhood.

Marley and Me
Do NOT and I repeat do NOT see this movie if you are happy and loving life. If you are, this movie will kick you in the gut and make you depressed and hating how hard real life is. (There is also a little bit of inappropriate-ness in it for a PG movie.)
I general watch movies to escape reality. I'm not interested in watching one where life is really hard and the dog DIES IN THE END - regardless of how the couple stays together and works together and how funny the dog antics are.
Movies aren't real - so why try to make them real? Just sayin. Dumb movie with the dog dying in the end.

Twilight (I can't believe I'm about to write this post)
Okay so Twilight. A book series that I read (and disliked) before it got all trendy and caught on across the nation.
Richard and I rented the movie the other night. Despite the overtly sexual tones (incidentally one of the issues I have with the books) it was a decent movie. A very dark movie just by the nature of vampires and staying out of the sunlight. But decent acting and a good portrayal of the story. (My favorite quote from the movie "Hold on my little spider monkey." Couldn't stop laughing. If you ever hear me call Richard that, now you'll know why.)
Richard's favorite part of the movie?? This:

Bella has the same truck that he has. (Maybe I'll try to convince him to paint his orange.)

Working through my disappointment
As you could probably tell by the title, I didn't get the part in the play. So here I am, blogging to work through my disappointment a little bit. Man!!
The hardest part about it was the not knowing.
It was actually "given to me" during Conference that I wouldn't get the part because Heavenly Father needs me elsewhere. But I was kinda hoping He didn't really mean it. (I know - silly girl!)
The director called and was very kind about it. He said it came down to my conflicts (which was a concern for me all along so I wasn't surprised). He was very encouraging about auditioning again both for him and for the theater. I am really bummed.
I really want to cry and get it out of my system. (I told Richard I would only be sad for 2 days then I would be over it. I figure it'll take through tomorrow to let all my friends know that I didn't get the part.) Then I can re-focus on the great feelings I had whilst auditioning.
So there you go. And I'm starting to feel better about it already.

Afterthought (cuz I'm lame)
Yeah so by-the-way, I totally got home before the 2nd session of Conference and LOVED it!
What am I doing?...
That's right I'm blogging because Richard is at Priesthood session and I'm anxiously awaiting a call about whether or not I've been cast. I'm not even guaranteed a call today. I'm just really really really hoping that I get one today.
So my callback? Was. Awesome! I got there at 11:15 or so and we watched the "Leo" girls perform their ballet-like number. There were 5 or 6 and some were quite good. After they finished we did a big group number where they wanted to see if we could dance and sing simultaneously. Of course it was the song with the highest notes that "Amnesia" has to hit. We were supposed to dance like our character and since I think Amnesia is overly enthusiatic I danced overly enthusiastic. I think it was the 2nd or 3rd time that they got that I was "acting". I can actually dance pretty darn well.
So after that the "Huberts" sing. (That wasn't me. But a woman named Peaches was AMAZING!!) Then the "Amnesias" sing. I was excited to be prepared to sing one of Amnesias two solos. And can I just tell you, the song ends talking about saying a thank you prayer about being a nun and I got so into it that I totally teared up and almost started crying. What a dork! But I felt really good about the song. I really thought I was amoung the top auditioners. I never would have guessed that in a million years. I just don't have that kind of confidence in my singing. But I guess it's pretty good cuz I felt like a million bucks when I was done.
Okay so then they asked me to stay and sing "Robert Anne"s song. I was sooo unprepared. I wasn't expecting that at all. Honestly, I thought I was a shoo-in (is that even how you spell shoo-in?) for Amnesia and didn't think they would consider me for Robert Anne. Then they had us read a paragraph in a NY accent. The other 2 ladies had PLAYED THE ROLE BEFORE and I spent my week focusing on Amnesia. Sheesh.
The first time I saw the show Robert Anne was my favorite character and I wanted to be her but then my friend was all "You'd be a great Amnesia and they already have a bunch of people slotted for Robert Anne" so I kinda changed my focus and fell in love with Amneisa. After today, I really have no idea what they will decide. I said I would accept any role. (At this point let me just tell you I would be ridiculously excited for any role. )
So here I sit and wait and try to not got crazy. Will I even get a part?!

Feelings
Well today is call back day. I'm feeling so...
tired because the dogs wake us up at 7:00 every day. Without fail.
anxious because well it's an audition for heaven's sake.
guilty because I'm choosing an audition over Conference.
sad because I'm choosing an audition over Conference and I love Conference.
grateful because I'll be able to watch whatever Congerence I miss on the internets.
strangely open in the nasal passages because I used a neti pot for the first time this morning. It wasn't a perfect first try but wow I am totally shocked at the difference. I wonder how long it stays like this?
apologetic because I thought neti pot users were a little on the fanatical tree hugger side of things.
nervous because (again) it's an audition.
excited because it's a call back.
happy because I'm alive and well and have so many blessings.

Not fun, not fun, not fun, not fun, not fun.....
That's a little part of a song Sister Mary Amnesia sings.... who I happen to have a call back for. Yay! I'm soooo excited.
That part of the song also describes my feelings about having to wait until Saturday to read for a part then more waiting to see if I get the part or not so much.
